June 20, 2025

moises gonzalesThe School of Architecture and Planning (SA+P) proudly announces that Professor Moises Gonzales, Chair of the Community and Regional Planning (CRP) Department, has been selected as a recipient of the 2025 Community Engaged Scholarship Award, a prestigious honor bestowed annually by the UNM Community Engaged Research Lecture (CERL) Committee.

This university-wide recognition celebrates faculty who have demonstrated outstanding integration of community engagement into their research and scholarly activities. Professor Gonzales, who earned his Master of Community and Regional Planning (MCRP) from UNM in 1997 and was named a Distinguished Alumni of the School in 2001, exemplifies the values of public-serving scholarship and deep-rooted commitment to New Mexico’s communities.

Dr. Renia Ehrenfeucht, SA+P Associate Dean for Research and fellow CRP Professor, praised the recognition: “The CERL award is a tremendous honor that recognizes how Professor Gonzales integrates his deep knowledge of New Mexico into planning practices and scholarship.”

Notably, Gonzales joins a distinguished group of scholars, including CRP Distinguished Professor Emerita Dr. Claudia Isaac, who received the award in 2017. The recognition of two CRP faculty members underscores the department’s longstanding dedication to engaged scholarship and its vital role in serving the people and communities of New Mexico.

The School extends heartfelt congratulations to Professor Gonzales, who will be honored at a university-wide ceremony this Fall alongside other 2025 awardees. His recognition also comes at a meaningful time, as he prepares to step down from his role as CRP Chair this summer.

We celebrate his achievements and enduring contributions to community-based planning, education, and research.
