UNM School of Architecture + Planning Welcomes New & Returning Faculty Members

We are excited to welcome three new faculty to the SA+P community. 

In the Department of Community and Regional Planning, we welcome Sarah Soakai as Assistant Professor of Indigenous Planning. Soakai is a PhD Candidate in Urban Planning from the University of California, Los Angeles. She received her Master’s in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Her research focuses on community development and social policy as it relates to communities in and on the margins, specifically Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Indigenous Communities.  

In the Architecture Department, we welcome Liane Hancock as Assistant Professor in Sustainability. Hancock holds degrees from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Columbia University. Her research focuses on material and building construction.  

We welcome Dr. Stathis Yeros as Assistant Professor of Architectural History. Yeros received his PhD from the University of California, Berkeley. His research focuses on design and social justice, specializing on LGBTQ+ landscapes, postwar urban and environmental politics, and communal housing.  

We also welcome back Katherine Boles as a Visiting Assistant Professor. She received her M.Arch from the University of New Mexico and an MLA from the University of Virginia. Her research centers around multispecies cohabitation.
