Dean Creates Fall Student Forum for Strategic Planning
November 29, 2021
A few weeks ago, a group of 24 students met at Hodgin Hall representing each department and the following student organizations: AIA (American Institute of Architects), APA (American Planners Association), ASLA (American Society of Landscape Architects), and CAD (Council of Allied Disciplines). Current students were joined by four recent alumni from the Architecture and CRP departments.
The student forum was established to ensure that the student’s voices are included in the strategic planning process. Dean González is hosting a series of student forums before the faculty, staff, and administrators meet this coming Spring to discuss the SA+P's Strategic Plan and Goals.
Students proposed three topics of discussion, which they will continue to explore in future forums: 1) Student Solidarity: How can we support students in their studies and in building relationships with each other? 2) Academic Goals: Are there opportunities to encourage the cross-disciplinary and interdisciplinary development of core curricula? This is important as the SA+P helps to solve and mitigate twenty-first century challenges, such as climate change, social cohesion, equity & inclusion building, and supporting mental and physical health in our cities and educational environments. 3) Resource Building for Student Success: How can we provide more career development tools and resources for our students?
The Fall Student Forum helped students launch into important conversations that need to continue. SA+P students are looking forward to facilitating more engagement through face to face gathering and digital platforms, as they play a key role in helping to develop the SA+Ps strategic planning goals.
