Professor Roger Schluntz elected to national AIA position

Roger Schluntz, a UNM professor and former dean of the School of Architecture and Planning, is taking on a new, national role. At the 2018 National Conference of the American Institute of Architects, Schluntz was elected to the executive committee of the AIA College of Fellows.
Schluntz is one of only 18 AIA Fellows (FAIA) in New Mexico, an honor bestowed upon architects who have made outstanding contributions to the profession. He will serve two years as the Bursar for the College of Fellows.
According to last year’s AIA College of Fellows newsletter, he has been involved in almost every aspect the AIA and associated professional organizations– including serving as a panel member for the National AIA Honor Awards Program. He’s also served on more than 15 accreditation team visits for the National Architectural Accreditation board (NAAB), and was a past board member and secretary for the NAAB.
An appointed member of the National Register of Peer Professionals for the US GSA, Schluntz has undertaken studies on design quality, design review processes, and urban design guidelines. He has served as the Professional Adviser for more than twenty-five major national and international design competitions, and currently serves on the International Competitions Commission for the International Union of Architects (UIA). He was the 2017 recipient of the AIA New Mexico Silver Medal for Lifetime Achievement and is recognized by the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA) as a Distinguished Professor.
