Students Win Downtown Action Team Fence Competition
July 9, 2013
A design proposal submitted by Navida Johnson (BAEPD) and Michael Canales (MArch) was selected by Albuquerque's Downtown Action Team. The fence design will be installed at the Alvarado Urban Farm using recycled materials and the existing chain link fence. Their concept seeks to engage the community about ecological systems and the vital role of bee communities through a honeycomb inspired design. Johnson and Canales see the project as an interpretation of the ecological systems and the connection between natural and built environments. The Alvarado Urban Farm began as an SA•P Pre Fab Farm initiative, and is currently home to an urban farming project for veterans in downtown Albuquerque.
