Nación Genízara will receive the 2020 CPRC Heritage Publication Award from the Cultural Properties Review Committee, which is part of the State of New Mexico Office of Historic Preservation. The award will be given at a formal ceremony on May 15th in Santa Fe.

Jeff Pappas, a State Historic Preservation Officer from the Department of Cultural Affairs noted that the “board had some outstanding options this year. But ultimately, they were impressed by the high level of scholarship and timeliness of [the] work and the potential implications of SHPO, as they consider future projects around the area of Genízaros.”

Gonzales noted that he was “glad to see the book has raised and elevated the conversation around preservation of Genízaro Communities.”
