Landscape Architecture and ID+PI collaborate with Navajo village on housing relocation project

The Landscape Architecture department along with the Indigenous Design and Planning Institute at the University of New Mexico are collaborating with Red Water Pond Road, a Navajo village located in northern New Mexico. 

Red Water Pond Road residents face relocation to Gallup, NM while the Environmental Protection Agency begins long-awaited cleanup efforts of a Superfund site located within the village loaded with uranium mine waste. 

However, with collaboration and research conducted by UNM's programs, the residents are proposing another option rather than a long-distance relocation.
