January 9, 2014

YAC competition imageThe fall 2013 Arch 601 studio competed in the Post-Quake Visions Competition, the second of the Young Architects Competitions. The team placed as finalists competing with 190 teams from over 60 countries. The competition aimed to encourage research and new ideas for the reconstruction of the Italian City of Crevalcore, which was struck by a May 2012 earthquake that destroyed hundreds of ancient buildings.

Nine students worked individually on different aspects of the project and came together to collaborate on one final submission.  Instructor Karen King was impressed by the students’ ability to collaborate and engage with the challenge of restoration in the complex historical and economic situation of a medieval Italian village.
