Stephen Dent has been teaching energy conserving and sustainable design for over 30 years. He has written extensively on the subject and has presented his architectural work and research at national and international conferences. He has also received over $300,000 in energy related research contracts. In the design studio, “green” architectural design principles are emphasized as well as a comprehensive process that integrates research, design and analysis with the means of construction and building systems. He is the graduate Advisor for the 2 Year Grad Program and was Associate Dean at the School, 1989-1998. Professor Dent is a partner in Dent & Nordhaus, Architects, AIA, a small firm that specializes in sustainable designs. He also has extensive professional experience in urban design and planning with Moshe Safdie & Associates (Montreal), O’Malley & Associates (Baltimore), and the Los Angeles City Planning Department.
