Before coming to the University of New Mexico School of Architecture + Design, Professor Matthew Walker taught in the Architecture School of Edinburgh University, and in the History of Art Department of Oxford University. Professor Walker has also held postdoctoral positions with the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art and with the Andrew W Mellon Foundation (held jointly with Oxford University and the Ashmolean Museum). Assistant Professor Walker's research is focused on seventeenth and eighteenth-century British, French, and European Architecture; intellectual engagement with architecture; later reception of early modern architecture, particulary in North America; and the architectural writings of figures such as Sir Christopher Wren, John Evelyn, and Roger North.Professor walker holds a PhD in the history of Art from the Univerity of York and an undergraduate degree in History from Oxford University. Walker recently published a book titled "Architects and Intellectual Culture in Post-Restoration England."
