Morrow to Receive Award from Spanish Government

Baker Morrow, professor of practice in the UNM School of Architecture and Planning, translated and interpreted the 500-year-old account, The South American Expeditions, will receive the Ministry of Culture Award from the Spanish government on Friday, April 27 from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. in the gallery of George Pearl Hall. This event is free and open to the public.

UNM Offers Southwest Summer Institute for Preservation and Regionalism

The UNM School of Architecture and Planning offers its 2012 Southwest Summer Institute for Preservation and Regionalism in a series of courses running June 11-29. Each three-hour credit course meets for five days from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Werner Gilchrist House Deconstruction Focus of Exhibition

An exhibition on the deconstruction of the Werner Gilchrist house opens Friday, April 6 from 6-9 p.m. in the UNM School of Architecture and Planning's Rainosek Gallery, located at 2401 Central NE. The show will be up until May 1.
Students unite form, function in design for Crownpoint

Architecture Professor Mark Childs decided that the research studio he was teaching this fall would have a strong emphasis on investigation that is applicable to design. He said, “I’ve done lots of projects I had to do. This time I did one I wanted to do.” The project he selected for the class was to research the Crownpoint Navajo Rug Auction. Crownpoint is in McKinley County, northeast of Gallup. The students were charged to design a mixed-use facility to accommodate the auction, but since that’s only a one a month event, the facility could serve other purposes, as well.
City Council Meets with UNM, School of Architecture and Planning

The Albuquerque City Council met recently as a "Committee of the Whole," at the request of the University of New Mexico School of Architecture and Planning, which engaged the UNM community. The purpose of the special meeting, Albuquerque 20/20: Design + Planning for Quality of Life + Economic Development, was to discuss how planning and design can help enhance quality of life for residents, while addressing the city’s goals for economic development and urban growth. The meeting was set to precede the City Council’s meeting to decide upon redistricting and budget approval.
