Welcome Donors + Friends
Gifts to the School of Architecture & Planning are an investment in our students, our faculty and our programs. Alumni/ae and friends play a vital role in supporting the mission of the School and its academic programs.
We invite you to share your interests, ask questions, and help us reconnect with former students. Please contact us to learn more about the many ways you can support the School, including special funding initiatives currently underway. Your gifts make a very measurable impact in all areas of the School and the University. Each and every gift will enhance our ability to attract and maintain the best and brightest students and faculty from New Mexico and elsewhere.
Annual giving has a significant day-to-day impact on the School of Architecture & Planning. These funds allow the dean or an academic program director to direct resources to the areas of greatest need and support unexpected opportunities. Annual funds may be used to purchase equipment, enhance studio activities and support student field trips and conferences. Annual gifts ensure that students receive a rich and meaningful educational experience.
Here are five ways to support the School of Architecture + Planning
- Create an endowed fund
An endowment is a permanent fund that generates annual income. An endowment can honor a person or a company, or can honor the memory and life of a loved one. Once an endowment is established and fully funded, it provides funding every year to support the stated purpose of the endowment. For example, a faculty position could be named the “ABC Company Professorship” or the “John Q. Public Memorial Travel Endowment.”
Endowment funds may support:
- Students, scholarships and student organizations
- Faculty through endowed chairs, professorships or visiting professorships
- Programs, lectures, or studios
- Instructor-directed student travel
You may create an endowment may be created with a gift, a pledge over a period of years, or a planned gift.
- Make a bequest to the UNM Foundation
A bequest is a gift made through a will. Bequests ensure the future long-term growth of the School of Architecture & Planning and do not affect your assets today.
- Designate the University as a beneficiary of life insurance.
You can name the UNM Foundation as the owner or beneficiary of a new or an existing policy.
- Establish a charitable gift annuity.
An annuity is a contract between a donor and a nonprofit organization. The donor transfers cash or property to the UNM Foundation in exchange for a partial tax deduction and a lifetime stream of annual income. When the donor passes away, the charity keeps the gift. The amount of annual income is determined by many factors including the donor's age and the policy of the nonprofit.
- Donate appreciated stock or real estate
You may donate stocks, bonds, or mutual funds that have increased in value to the School of Architecture & Planning. The UNM Foundation also accepts gifts of personal residences, ranch or farm land, or investment property.
Every gift is important! Whatever the size, your gift to the School of Architecture and Planning helps our students, faculty, and academic programs.
