The Graduate program in landscape architecture at the University of New Mexico has a home in the School of Architecture and Planning along with graduate programs in Architecture and Community and Regional Planning. The strong interdisciplinary relationship among the three programs in the School ensures that students are given the opportunity to engage in a rich and diverse educational experience as the foundation for their professional careers.

The sublime New Mexico landscape, with its breathtaking natural beauty and its fascinating cultural history, is the setting for the program. The School maintains close interaction with professional, state, civic, neighborhood and cultural communities of the region. The relationships thus developed constitute an important aspect of the educational process for students in the Landscape Architecture Program.

As a first professional graduate degree program, the MLA curriculum at the University of New Mexico has been designed with two primary goals: first, to provide an education in the fundamental skills and knowledge required of a professional landscape architect; and second, to promote theoretical explorations and research that encourage reflection and scholarship within this broad and complex discipline.
