TICRAT Web Header

The Taller Internacional de Conservacion y Restauracion de Arquitectura de Tierra (TICRAT) is a binational initiative that started approximately 25 years ago. Important institutions such as the National Park Service NPS, Instituto Nacional de Antropologia e Historia INAH in Mexico, University of Arizona, University of New Mexico UNM, as well as NGO's like Cornerstones Community Partnerships in Santa Fe have collaborated to bring this much-needed information to communities and professionals in the preservation of Historic Earthen Structures in our region. These earth technologies and building typologies in Mexico and the US are a common cultural thread between both nations. As an academic institution, it is of great importance to promote these technologies and architecture among our future architects, preservationists, landscape architects, archeologists, planners and historians. This important event is being organized by the Historic Preservation and Regionalism Graduate Certificate Program at the School of Architecture and Planning at UNM, National Park Service and the University of Arizona, and hosted by the Pecos National Historical Park in New Mexico. Experts on Earth Architecture from Mexico INAH office: Architect Antonio Guerrero Arzaga, Art Conservator Frida Mateos, Anthropologist Jose Luis Perea, Dr. Luis Fernando Guerrero Baca from the Universidad Autonoma Metropolitana in Mexico City, and Jake Barrow from Cornerstones Community Partnerships. The National Park Service will provide a long list of experts in earthen architecture and the workshop will be complemented with academic institutions lecturers, as well as a handful of local experts/preservationists.
